Today is a great day for Damisa and its people. The last two Arabian leopards in the country have managed to save their species!
The Arabian leopard has been through a lot
Arabian leopards are rare species that can be recognized by their pale coats and small spots. This species is a leopard subspecies that was on the verge of extinction. Indeed, due to the precarious situation in the country and the corrupt regime, this subspecies was frequently mistreated. Many of them were killed because their coats attracted a lot of attention. The others did not survive because of the disappearance of other species, thus preventing them from feeding.
A ray of hope
Following this unfortunate situation for our animals, volunteers and nature reserve managers searched for all the animals in our savannah to treat them in the hope of saving them.
At that time, two Arabian leopards were taken to a reserve not far from Jariri. These two animals were in bad shape and the officials thought they could not be saved. However, thanks to their patience and expertise, they gradually recovered. Many people in Damisa followed their adventures in the press, hoping that this species would have a chance of survival.
The species will survive
The lucky day has arrived, after many months of patience, the two Arabian Leopards have reproduced. This act brings a chance of future reproduction, and therefore the possibility of rebirth of this species. It is therefore with emotion that the people in charge of the Jariri nature reserve welcomed this newborn. This news filled all Damisians with joy.
