What happened?
Before the war, the corrupt regime dealt with Damisa without mercy. The values of our country were trampled on. Our friends, our families, nobody was respected. But besides the Damisians, other living beings were mistreated. Our animal diversity was treated without mercy. The corrupt regime hunted our animals more than they should have. Elephants were hunted down to cut off their tusks and sell them at exorbitant prices. Our leopards, snakes, panthers and many others were used to make clothes and bags.
The war did not help our animals. The country was ravaged by bombs and nature was not spared. The animals had to cope with a lot of upheaval. Many of ou
r wild animals did not survive.
What is the situation today?
Today Damisa is doing its best to rebuild itself. So is nature and biodiversity. However, we have lost much of our diversity. Many of our wild animals are on the verge of extinction as a result of this carnage. The situation is dire, but our animals are strong. They are trying to readapt; they are doing everything to survive. So there is still a chance to save the biodiversity of Damisa.
What is being done?
The Damisians have decided not to give up, the war has shown that people are willing to give everything to save their country. The situation is the same for the animal crisis. The Damisians want to fight for their wild animals. That is why many actions have been taken recently. Firstly, many volunteers work on weekends in the fields and savannah. They replant the plants that were destroyed. These are used as food for the animals.
Secondly, several nature reserves have opened their doors to care for the animals in a way that respects nature and their way of life. These reserves aim to revive these endangered species.
In conclusion, our animals have had a lot of hardships on their plate in the last few years in the Damisa savannah. But the Damisian people are taking matters into their own hands to allow biodiversity to return to normal.
