WUTA, THE DAY FREEDOM IS CELEBRATED

Dernière mise à jour : 25 oct. 2021

23 March, for three years now the most important day in Damisa's history. The day the Damisiens got their lives and rights back after the corrupt regime. This year it was again celebrated extensively with music, dance, food and fire.

Wednesday was the day that every Damisien had been looking forward to. The National Day actually started on Tuesday 22 March, when the preparations began. Jariri was decorated from head to toe, several stages were set up in the capital and families started with the first preparations of the traditional dishes. The preparations towards the Wuta are immense, but every Damisien is willing to give their time to make this day special.

Family, food and fire

The day has arrived. As every year, the Damisiens were given leave from work, and the children did not have to go to school either. In the morning and at lunchtime, it is family quality time. The families come together and eat the delicious traditional food they had prepared the day before. After the meal, they get ready to go to the big fire festival in Jariri. With their beautiful traditional and exuberant costumes, the Damisiens transformed the capital into a colourful city of peace. There was dancing, partying and laughter. With beautiful fire shows and music, this day ended beautifully. The celebration went on until the early hours.

Away from reality

On this holy day, all the people forget their worries and that is a good thing, because they do not have easy lives. The corrupt regime was ousted not long ago and the wounds from that time are still healing. During the Wuta, they can forget everything and just be happy together with the people who are dearest to them.
